Services Kings

Ya 3ene ya 3ene, Everyone in Jordan sell services!

I'm not generalizing facts blindly.. it's really it, no one here sell goods! I means things you can touch, carry, eat.. What's the need?? really! why should we eat? or dress and place on our bodies?

Entrepreneurs, are Kings of Services.. I have 5% chance my hypothesis is wrong, when it comes to JO Bedu and wheels Express.. as the rest they are specialists in services...

I think that we have a point here to notice, Being Services Kings must be the reason behind lack of attention we are getting from investors and media, it's not a sufficient or seductive enough topic for business men to sell, not in our countries no! Our managements aren't like Pepsi's!! no they will not pay for our ideas (Pepsi's refresh project) I am sorry people! this is not the USA.

We need sha7atat to wear and 3elkeh to nfagge3 feha, look at your market twice and see what they need. and a man that people like his services might die! just like 3ala rasi's management , would you possibly go on the same level of entertainment if you lost Omar AL-Abdullat, What if Omar Alabdullat passed away?? My advice to you is start merchandising before allah ma ya5od be 2manto!

5 Tips for Arab Start-ups

  1.  Cultural differences.
So, you are an Arab entrepreneur, starting your own business today, you might go down the wrong way and consider some target audience recipe that was prescribed by a -business best seller book- in the US, not considering that you are living in a 3rd world country named Jordan/Egypt/Libya. it's not that what the author was saying in his book was wrong, but you should keep in mind the Arab world's characteristics, features and interests are special -check table (1) for clarification-.. in contrary with the audience he was discussing, although it might sound relative to some entrepreneurs (explained in a previous post).

   2.  People do not work for free.

Unfortunately, no they do not! You cannot go using those talented, passionate and self-motivated individuals or groups to help you out all the time,(Check this previous post about alternative musicians and entrepreneurs for more information) not because this is a pure faithful world; but because they are not a bunch of dicks, I assure you that they might come chasing you down someday, especially if you happened to spread and gain popularity in the future... so tone it down with a nice deal of paying back, doesn't have to be money by the way.

  3.  Avoid Media Obsession.

I know it's so flattering and exciting that it could bring your mama back from her coma. Still, the warning here specializes in your first stages; when you have this brilliant idea and still preparing for it, you should have a plan and a marketing method, not to mention the target, etcetera..  talking about that frankly with journalists is not really healthy; since you will be adjusting and implementing A LOT, be careful of these bugs.. beginners like you are the easiest preys.

  4.  Don't just quit your job.

People you look up to, suddenly quit their jobs, rented an office or imprisoned themselves in a garage to start working, that doesn't happen everyday!! Make sure to still have money for your daily consumption and bills before you quit your job, and don't be fooled by statistics.

 5.  Disappointment is coming your way!

If your girlfriend complimented your so called revolutionary idea and your dad rubbed your back with a kiss on the head when heard about your ambitions, do no expect everyone to be so, some people just love crashing your self-motivated and productive spirit  well, I'm sorry dear but sometimes the closest people to us lie to us the most. Your girlfriend might be sleepy or horny, so might your papa be!

How did he become an entrepreneur?

So, a lot of people go whining "Why not me!! what am I missing???"

Well, some of the factors that happen to be constructive for an entrepreneur being is the environment he was raised around/in, a rich childhood with special experiences or a certain adolescent attitude that directed his life plan toward an innovating approach.you are not really lucky if your dad was a barbarian snob, racist maniac or a sophisticated control freak. Another thing you should get freely exposed and oriented to is Internet.

If you took a look at table (1) above you will find a cycle that begins with Vulnerability and ends with Action. I have already started explaining vulnerability when I mentioned adolescence and family life style, friends and the place you actually live in.. educational level your parents reached and whether they learned something from earning it, finally and indeed the financial status of your family. As for Internet and your engagement type to social media can always help in building a more developed entrepreneur-personality, entrepreneurs between the age of 18-40 are active social media users not that only but also they should be smart and popular ones.. influential presence that can be noticed clearly through being retweeted and tagged as "like" continuously.since they are westerly oriented they have those brilliant, individuated opinions and observations the can always be looked up to as liberal, non-typical and mostly nontraditional; comparing that to how they see people's feedback to their attitude, they feel powerful and motivated, they develop sense of responsibility toward major changes. which becomes an obsessive Need at a certain stage. which is the factor that follows internet in table (1), this certain need can sometimes be suppressed by the entrepreneur himself or those who are close and shape pressure groups. Until, they are Provoked! what I mean but provoking here is hearing or reading about someone who is less or at the same level of education and literacy, that start his own business, and that example makes the best stimulation for the entrepreneur to get start planning and actually do the Action...

Now it should be clear to you why you are not the next  entrepreneur of Jordan...

Censoring you!! Mr. Jordanian entrepreneur

Ahhh! Here comes the law of 2010!!
You were thinking it's getting better with all the media buzz ha?
Not for so long, you gotta watch you arse MR! they are everywhere on each blog, conversation, inside pages of your website.. Even your honesty box!

Your revolutionary soul might be aching, you could create a facebook group, an event, even an anarchy-alike "street art" campaign.. but that's too hippie for you.  Ofcourse you wouldn't call Mohammed Al-Wakeel! you are an entrepreneur! you do things on your own, so you go call your entrepreneur friend that runs Jo Bedu and propose this great idea of having t-shirts with an expressive caricature on, and don't forget to make him add your website link to the bottom of the t-shirt...

I know what your thinking about you brilliant thing! M7md sammoura is the man, an old man of change and accomplishments, get his number, but you better have an idea already since that man is busy and has no time to waste, make it grand, Ammanie, brain erecting.. and most of all.. DOABLE!

You know, this law is going to stress up people who might be following you on twitter so don't go too bold during tweeting, not even on facebook.. because even if those twitters did not follow you will be followed by other not very pleasant gang!

It's your time, the crowd are angry and on fire! Make a change today MR entrepreneur..

Good luck!
